This week is all about shining a light on women’s health and encouraging women to put themselves first for a week & think about their health and wellbeing.
This year 15,000 women across Australia were surveyed (the report is available at jeanhailes.org.au) and 46.1% have been diagnosed with depression or anxiety. 66.9% if women reported feeling nervous, anxious or on edge nearly every day.
Yoga, mindful movement & meditation are known to help reduce these symptoms. In a culture where busy is the norm, where we are over committed & over scheduled…worrying excessively about how we’re going to get it all done!
Carving out time for yourself (in particular a yoga class) is a wonderful way to give yourself permission to slow down, sit with your emotional landscape and practice bringing yourself into the present moment by focusing on your breath. Anxiety is worrying about what hasn’t happened yet, and yoga teaches us how to better stay in the moment.
